Scroll down for Hogan’s Footwork.
To begin our journey with Golf and Research we will take a look at the difference between a player’s Address and his Impact. There willthe static picture and there will also be an animation. We are going to start with Mr Hogan. We will continue to add players. There is a lot to learn appreciating how different players use their body and their club in unique ways to attempt to provide effective Impact Alignments .While Impact is the one position that is ,by far, the most similar position in good players swings than any other it still varies from player to player. Many impacts are still noticeably distinct.
The more you watch Mr Hogan’s Impact the more impressive it becomes.
Notice that his hands are on the inside of his left thigh. That means he moved his center not his hands. I think that is highly significant!!
Let’s look at Mr Hogan’s foot work. It is both a result of a highly geometrically effective pattern, as well as, a means to producing a wonderful pivot. A pivot isonly useful if it encourages functional, precise and repeatable approach geometry.
Noticethat his right heel stays forward of his right toe. That helps to encourage the entire right side to move to impact with extremely effective approach geometry.
Not only does the heel stay forward of the toe, it is dragged forward without the twisting counterclockwise.
The line gives a sense of just how far his right side travels.
Not only does the heel stay forward of the toe, it is draggedforward without any counterclockwise twist.
In fact, the right heel must feel as though you are turning it clockwise!
